Follow these steps, in order, to fix the problem with Chrome and get the browser working again. Force close unresponsive tabs. Sometimes Chrome tabs crash or freeze. In such situations, use Chrome Task Manager to force close individual tabs. Go to the More menu (three vertically aligned dots), then select More Tools > Task Manager. Close and reopen Chrome. This fix often works when Chrome is running slowly. Sometimes the program consumes too much RAM (random access memory), which slows it down considerably. A reboot frees memory. Force close the browser. Sometimes Chrome may appear frozen or not working. However, it still runs in the background, consuming memory and preventing you from relaunching the browser. Once Chrome is closed, you can open a new Chrome window. Disable extensions. Disable any extensions or plugins that no longer work or that you no longer use. Extensions are often responsible for a problem. Turn off Flash. The Chrome Flash plugin is known to crash from time to time, which can cause issues loading certain websites. Flash isn't entirely necessary and it carries more security risks than it's worth. Today, most websites use HTML5 and CSS3 for animations instead of Flash. Reset to get rid of malware. Unwanted ads, pop-ups, and malware can cause problems, which is why resetting Chrome can help. Go to the More menu, then select Settings > Advanced > Reset Settings.
