Our sufferings! | |
This is a KJV Bible study guide. Many ask why does God allow suffering? Isaiah 48:10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction Romans 5:3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 2 Corinthians 4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; Philippians 1:29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; 1 Peter 5:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 1 Peter 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. The suffering of Jesus – the passion of Christ – is God’s concrete answer to all our questions. In the cross of Christ, God, who took on our humanity in the womb of the Virgin Mary, suffers with us and for us. In the cross, the suffering that was the consequence of human sin becomes the means of human salvation. In the cross, human suffering becomes an instrument of divine love. The cross is God’s final answer to our questions about human suffering, and it is so in at least three ways. First, the fact that Jesus suffered – and suffered horribly – shows us that God allows suffering in those He loves. Second, the passion of Christ shows us that Jesus shares in our suffering. Jesus is Emmanuel. He is God-with-us; see Isaiah 7:14 and Matthew 1:23. Third, the passion of Christ answers the question of suffering because Jesus, who suffered for us, invites us to suffer with Him; see 1Peter 4:13. God/Jesus Christ does not remain distant from human suffering as many believe He does; He has become part of it! Most of you have probably never heard this before. You have now! We humans are 100% responsible for any and all suffering we encounter because, we are our own worst enemies. This is something you cannot deny. For instance, we have polluted everything; the air, the soil, the water and ourselves which causes us much suffering. Where does this suffering originate? It originates in the evil hearts of many humans. What acts are considered to be evil? See the following verses for the answers, (this is not an all inclusive list, man is very inventive when it comes to evil). Mark 7:21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Mark 7:22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: Mark 7:23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. Some of the many pertinent verses on “evil”: Psalm 7:14, 28:3, 37:9, 73:7; Proverbs 3:7, 8:13, 12:20; Isaiah 5:20, 32:6; John 3:20; Romans 2:8-12, 12:21; 2 Timothy 2:22; James 1:13-14. | |
