Prominent tap dancers of this period include Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers and Shirley Temple. In the 1950s, tap dance declined, while rock and roll, pop music and jazz dance emerged. Since many believe that jazz dance evolved out of tap dance, the two styles have many moves in common.
