Bone and joint infections

Mechanism of Action: Amoxicillin, as a member of the penicillin class, inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). This leads to the weakening of the bacterial cell wall and eventual cell lysis. However, certain bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes that can degrade amoxicillin and render it ineffective. Clavulanate potassium in this combination binds to these beta-lactamase enzymes, preventing them from deactivating amoxicillin, thus extending the spectrum of antimicrobial activity.
