Nagaland govt to initiate oil and natural gas exploration in the state in consultation with relevant stakeholders to achieve economic independence for the Nagas. "It is high time for Nagaland's economy to receive a boost through the exploration and production of petroleum, oil, and natural gas as economically viable resources," the Hoho said in a release. It suggested that a clear roadmap should be prepared for the early resumption of oil exploration in the state. Regarding the ongoing discussions between the Assam and Nagaland govts for oil exploration and sharing of royalties in the disturbed area belts, the Hoho insisted that any oil exploration undertaken in the disputed border areas should incorporate models from both govts. It stressed that the oil exploration and production licence should be signed by both state govts.
